The difference between US culture and my countrie Culture

Even though I am not from United States I consider this country in one of the most lawful countries in the world. I come from the Republic Macedonia, which is located in Balkan-Europe. In my country the laws are in a poor level and the corruption is in a higher level than US. In US everyone can be convicted: politicians, rich people, even the president. In my country if you have a high position in politics there is a 90% chance that you will get away with it. Another thing that I experienced differently in this country is that police officers don’t accept money on the side; where as in Macedonia if a police officer pulls you over you probably can get away with twenty dollars. It sounds nice but people than forget to obey the law. Where in US the existence of the laws it’s what is keeping people mostly away from trouble.

What I never liked about United States is the way the work with the tax system. People pay too much tax in this country. In Macedonia if you pay off the house you don’t have taxes after that. Whereas in here (USA) people pay sufficient amount of money for a house and they still have to pay taxes to the government after paying off their house. The way I see this is that buying a house in this country is pointless because it still going to remain as the property of US.

Another thing that I have seen these couple years that I live in this country is the divorce rate. It is going up every year; it is like people don’t want to have a family anymore. In my country divorce rate is less than 10% where here (US) it is over 50%. The worst things about these divorces are the children which most of them lose control and pursue life in the wrong direction. They get addicted to drugs, steal, perform poorly in school etc.

  1. I truly feels the same about the better law enforcement in United States. And I guess as the generation moves force, new culture and new ideas developed. People don't need to bind in their unhappy marriage anymore, but that does cause the problem of the increasing divorce rate, and the children is always the one who suffer the most.

  2. Yes-- the laws in this country, (although most American-born people would not fully agree) are quite effective for the most part. My boyfriend who was born and raced in NYC, ALWAYS complains aabout the U.S "corrupted" system. I usually laugh in his face and say: YOU DON'T KNOW CORRUPTION. I am from Venezuela where, the situation is SO bad, that if I saw a cop on the street, I'll run the opposite direction.
