Motivation


This was by far the best class that I have taken at Baruch. The professor is really clear with the material and he uses different techniques that I think other professor need, to improve their teaching. Using the skill variety helped me a lot in understanding the different topics that were covered in this semester. The exercises before every lecture made me curious to attend the next class and see what the professor is going to talk about. Also I liked the way that professor allowed us to give feedback about everything: topics in class, about his teaching style, what we thought about the test and help him to improve the test format etc.
What motivated me the most is the rewards, and the way the professor was trying to meet our needs. Every time I got an extra credit for an exercise I got motivated and tried to participate more in the lecture. After the first exam the one most of the class did bad the professor was very generous in offering us to make a choice in what we going to do with our grades, weather to drop the lowest curve anything we wanted. I don’t think that any professor would allow that, and for that I thank Prof. Kurpis..Thank YOU!!
After all I don’t think that the professor needs to offer more for this class, because basically he gave us more than he should.

  1. I agree, generosity was one of the reasons this class worked so well. Prof Kurpis really went over the top in letting us decide our fate for exam 2, that was a pretty good source of motivation for all of us.

  2. I agree, the fact that we had a say and could comment on almost everything made the environment much more enjoyable. You are right the Professor went above and beyond to accommodate our needs.

  3. I agree with you and do think that the experience or the activities before every lesson REALLY enhanced each lecture. I almost can't picture how they would have been were they structured the other way around. It was great to be kind of clueless doing the fun, unpredictable activities and then discussing them and learning form them in class.

  4. I agree that the diverse way of teaching is the most attractive part of this class. The reward is one of my most motivated thing for me too. Knowing that we get reward by curving or extra credit assignment, I want to do better every time.
